Hello March!

The Daffodils are in bloom, the days are getting longer, and Saint Patrick's Day is around the corner! I thought it would be fun to research and share a few March facts. Not a surprise to me, if you were born in March, your birth flower is a daffodil! I love to see these flowers show up every year! One year used to be 10 months long staring in March and ending in December on old Roman Calendars!  By there calendars I am a lot older than I thought I was! This year during the Vernal Equinox which is March 20 th   at 5:24 p.m. sun is directly above the equator!     What does this mean?     It means the day and night are equal length! March and June finish on the same day of the week, every year! The Romans deadline to settle debts was called the “Ides of March” was considered to be March 15 th .     Coincidentally it was also the day Julius Caesar was assassinated. Every year animals start waking up from hibernation in March! March 17 th   is Sa...

Valentine’s Day, a day to celebrate those we love!  A time when most exchange Valentine’s Day cards expressing love.   Let’s not forget chocolates, roses, and even a romantic night out or special dinner.   Always make time this Valentine’s Day to celebrate with that special someone. Two of our store employees, Rowdy and Tammy are proud that their parents have managed to keep the spark alive for over 58 years!  Danny and Melissa shown here shared their secret, "Never forget to express your love to one another every day, quiet evenings sitting on the porch together,  and long walks hand in hand!" Even if I don't have that special valentine, I love to create and share heart shaped cakes, cupcakes, fudge, or brownies to share.   Here's a photo of what I created to share with my co-workers at Jeff Lynch this year.  Chocolate fudge brownies drizzled in white chocolate We would love to hear how you are celebrating Valentines Day this year! ...

Did he see his shadow or did he not? That is the question!

Image
If he sees his shadow, six more weeks of winter!  If he doesn't that means an early spring!  Since Groundhog Day the movie came out in 1993, almost everyone has heard of Punxsutawney Phil ! Did you  know that's just his nickname? His full name is " Punxsutawney Phil, Seer of Seers, Sage of Sages, Prognosticator of Prognosticators, and Weather Prophet Extraordinary. " That’s a mouthful!  Now rather than relying on Punxsutawney Phil alone, a few other states now have their own groundhogs. I checked in on a few this morning. Just what did these guys predict today?  Punxsutawney Phil in Pennsylvania :  It’s official, Punxsutawney Phil arose from his burrow and spotted his shadow.  Therefore, according to America’s most beloved groundhog we will have 6 more weeks of winter.  Fun fact:  Since the tradition began in 1887 he has seen his shadow 107 of the 127 recorded predictions. General Beau Lee of Atlanta, Georgia :  General Beaur...

Air frying, a healthier option, cuts both fat and calories of oil frying and is now available in more than just table top devices!

Image
Air fryers, they cook fast, are easy to use, and turns out are versatile.   Originally made popular as a small table top device  Air Fry  now is also available in in toaster ovens, certain gas and electric ranges and even microwaves! Definitely a healthy alternative to frying, requiring only minimal oil to still get a crispy result.  Like me, you will discover whether you choose meats, vegetables, appetizers, or desserts, you can bake, roast, broil, crisp,  dehydrate,  and reheat foods and once you get the hang of it you’ll be hooked! If you have not experienced air frying, now is the time to try it.    Just remember these helpful tips before you start: Leave space for air to circulate around the food!  O vercrowded will not be as crispy and will take longer to cook. Grease your basket or container  to help prevent sticking.  Stick with average bite-sized cuts or larger. Foods that are cut too small can easily burn.  Dry b...

This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me. ” For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He ...
